My Flex Radio 6400 has been down for the count for going on 2 years. Since I don't QSO I have been using my other radios and an SDR Play for listening and with the Pandemic haven't needed to have remote listening available. So I finally wrote Flex to get a new RMA so I can ship them the radio then I'm likely selling it.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">The SDR Play works great, I'm going to upgrade to the newest model with the receivers. With the war going on in the Ukraine there are some interesting SWL listening going on at night. The bands are improving as well which is nice.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">The shack has changed a lot, I'll post pictures this weekend, not because anybody will see this, but because it's cool to look back to see how things progressed. </span></p>Erik's RV Blog http://www.blogger.com/profile/17149039572885361450noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107540537728179147.post-85692575446556685392016-09-11T18:06:00.002-07:002016-09-11T18:06:50.341-07:0015 Years later<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Long story short, they got a bit confused when I got there because somebody scanned the name wrong. They eventually found it and it had to remain in the back of the car for the entire day.... the horror!</div>

More to come, I'm playing with the 6300 on my iPad 2, it's a bit overwhelmed so I'll switch to the laptop for around the house operation. The Maestro is back ordered so playing the waiting game on that, 4 weeks hopefully will go fast!Erik's RV Blog http://www.blogger.com/profile/17149039572885361450noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107540537728179147.post-43560682776424125082016-06-14T19:26:00.000-07:002016-06-14T19:26:02.241-07:00UPS ExceptionThe dreaded word "EXCEPTION" is never good. I just received their email stating due to a mechanical failure they will "TRY" to deliver my package as soon as possible.<br />
<br />
Last time this happened, it took weeks to resolve so I'm calling for an update first thing in the morning. I don't know how hard it is to get a truck to the location of the mechanical failure and load it up and move on, this wasn't sent ground, it was sent via the expensive option of 3 day select.<br />

<br />
The Head Unit Maestro is on a 4 week back order but the rest should be here by this coming Wednesday. I'll post more when it gets here.<br />
<br />
I have a dedicated 20m and 10m Dipole ready to go and the SDRPlay will be used as well as the Yaesu MP1000 Mark V and the Icom 746 Pro.<br />
<br />
Now, I have to re-arrange the entire shack to prevent RFI issues and antenna coupling.<br />
<br />
I'll post back next week.Erik's RV Blog http://www.blogger.com/profile/17149039572885361450noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107540537728179147.post-79718966892372003812016-06-10T16:18:00.002-07:002016-06-10T16:18:56.778-07:00Time For A New Transceiver!I am researching a new radio, the contestants are the Icom 7300, the Yaesu 3000 and the FlexRadio 6300 and Maestro Combo.<br />
<br />
I know it's not really fair to compare the first two to the FlexRadio but these are the 3 I picked. I ruled out the Yaesu 3000, I hated to do it but Yaesu is behind the curve right now, the 3000 has been out a long time as have their other radios.<br />
<br />
I like the Icom 7300, but being able to take the head unit for the Flex 6300 around the house and even to the RV, SOLD! The Maestro is back ordered so for now I'll use my iPad to remote control it and my also my laptop and desktop.<br />
<br />
I'm ordering the FlexRadio 6300 tomorrow after talking to them about the Maestro back order.<br />

If it turns out to be the bees knees I'll get another one to enhance using my Yaesu MarkV, the scope for seeing the entire band looks to be awesome.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I ordered the SDRPlay last night, looks like I'll get it next week. In the mean time I'm going to bring a 20m antenna and some coax with me this weekend to prepare for using this with my laptop. 8mhz of bandwidth requires decent horsepower so I'll be using it with my HP Omen laptop which has a high end i7 and 16gigs of memory.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-39nR1Z3v9lxPtSBpvdnj8R2R3yyFcUpAXNyqqsXLz-Yd6wLk4HQw-JOkuZhzGjFIjkC0DaZm2X1dEos9S9oLW1SDpPXs4ASyGDmnS4eVLSVKaBHZyEN4xtEG8Yw2510Y5jCOQPZxqAM/s1600/Capture.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-39nR1Z3v9lxPtSBpvdnj8R2R3yyFcUpAXNyqqsXLz-Yd6wLk4HQw-JOkuZhzGjFIjkC0DaZm2X1dEos9S9oLW1SDpPXs4ASyGDmnS4eVLSVKaBHZyEN4xtEG8Yw2510Y5jCOQPZxqAM/s320/Capture.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I gave HDSDR a spin using the sound card from both the Icom and Yaesu and connecting via RS232 and came away impressed so I'm looking forward to seeing how this whole SDR thing plays out. I'll post a review when I have some time put into it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Side note, I'm also looking to purchase either the Icom IC-7300 or Yaesu FT DX 3000 some time soon. I'm keeping the Yaesu Mark V, it's simply too awesome to let go of, plus it was a gift, I don't sell gifts. I may replace the Icom 746Pro next year with the newer Icom 7100 so I can use it in my SUV. That's it for now, I have posted more this month than the past 3 years, I'll try to keep it up!</div>

I bought it on eBay so we have a portable rig to take to the RV if needed. It's nice to be able to record from both radios, capturing some great QSO's and a few not so great ones featuring the loon up in Canada, his tirades when he's been drinking could be turned into training recordings for new Ham's in how not to behave when on the air.<br />
<br />
I can control both radios from my PC, I can also remote control them from the internet so I can listen from the RV which is nice.<br />
<br />
That's it for now, hopefully I post more than once every two years going forward.<br />

You want to input pictures, this is the scanner for you. You want to print something, get ready for lots headaches and color quality issues. </p> <p>This is how the status screen is supposed to look. Fantastic, ready for printing right? Nope, the values for the estimated ink levels, except for the black, all wrong. All are new HP chipped print cartridges. When I view this on the printer screen, all values look correct, so why can’t the software show it properly? Who knows. I’m not going to go crazy with screen shots and pictures, I’m just going to explain it as best as I can. First complaint, it’s SLOW, VERY SLOW!</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPKHOsZrQmKI65ay4ms5YPCq-qW00LdZQXHgb4Z7ua8afJOQLVivKwiIRhvNoLZs2OK8SgEGQFdNVkM5yNpZ7zpYc4TSCE8iIaDCEBotn9vQZCSZYGElvT-yfOX9unrdCpsiZypivswPE/s1600-h/image%25255B7%25255D.png"><img title="image" style="border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="image" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi54uFfV-iS_PbG6Z_Qzu5M9rUV8UFH5xngBCyJZRegdU70FsyO7DkiDE2QGx3t-DzwoUVsutwCLdBxgejMdArh1r5e_O-c1Jj_macOUXzeMJ-si00L8QvG6tJWlTvrSgX0ySc8E-Z185A/?imgmax=800" width="449" height="540"></a></p> <p>I configured the printer as wireless before this and when you went to print something, maybe 20% of the time it would work. That 20% of the time 100% of the time if there was a soft color like a soft blue it would be washed out or missing some of the words. Print a test page and Magenta is always blank so I called HP, “the printer is out of warranty, can’t help you”. Fantastic… as it turns out there are others with similar issues so I’m not alone.</p> <p>I decided to run a long Ethernet cable to the printer, disable wireless and see how it goes from there. It still now sometimes prints even though it reports it erred out for an unknown reason. I run downstairs and see on the screen I am running incompatible paper, seriously? HP inkjet printing paper errors out?? I powered the printer off and waited a few then turned it back on, by powering off I mean unplugged since devices these days don’t really turn off.</p> <p>When it finally was ready to print this time it was happy with the paper so I tried to run a Windows test print which worked, 5 minutes later I had the test print, yes you read that right, 5 frackin minutes. I tried to print the 5 page email I previously wasn’t able to print and 4 minutes later got the “failed to print” in Windows but I could see the printer was preparing to do something. The LCD screen said “Printing” but Windows said it failed, ugh.</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGZ5qC0zDakrxiPA4UGwXdlSo3V-T_4j9cOS3J5jgia6UWmG0uUc6xWjjemaFFsls5oqzjQK2bygbMtYY2qXATrssAr5jc7IT7JvvniVXiizJzBM9-1ZBj2PplTY1ZZNylgh4MJyLlhzo/s1600-h/image%25255B4%25255D.png"><img title="image" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto" border="0" alt="image" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvyUK0nnxJApEer3lmBSSweWg1PyRRkV7Ffk5nmMWFJoBoKxuOhITaWbWhRm6SSw-E0raN6N3hRatF0WAj9Bz_g_CVOZa3omvTKgRL9QZGlaE5PuJSacktFCO4znXxHOK16TJ6eheWnIM/?imgmax=800" width="409" height="85"></a></p> <p>Another 4 minutes later 5 perfect pages came out, I forgot to mention I changed the print set up to default to B&W. Printing now works even though Windows reports back it fails… so I guess I’ll take that. B&W printing is excellent, color, well color stinks and a single color print reduces the available ink by a noticeable amount and at $90.00 for replacements that could get expensive very quickly. So, we’ll be sticking to B&W from now on since this thing also stinks printing pictures. </p> <p>If you’re in the market for a new Multi-Function printer, avoid this one, it’s not worth the high cost or the aggravation.</p> Erik's RV Blog http://www.blogger.com/profile/17149039572885361450noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107540537728179147.post-35624607024168832472013-12-31T22:02:00.000-08:002013-12-31T22:36:53.172-08:00Happy New Year!<p align="center">I hope everybody had a great New Year celebration!</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZUkeiijBk0YOmzH6xFWdsYWjwK9nx6I81C31CE3ewZ5R2yRR9ge2PIPxVhYotXMv-I4ODUEBoKcz-dGZblMFn6Mwof8K25XdJcgyKcvyf6jqLquN4C72S_oTo_Nqzm7EyIpygymHO0QE/s1600-h/Happy-New-Year-2014-Wallpapers1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img title="Happy-New-Year-2014-Wallpapers1" style="border-left-width: 0px; I haven’t ordered it yet, I’m doing some research first.</p> <p>I’m open to your thoughts if you see this. <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-right-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFxfr-jqYKrs-dLKksZS0arqwWfvqUmMfLoPCJzsaEznEwbwMLrXKH0O_rwQiHCHnfXnhFSgWeRbk0JPcgjHTLHCS-Q4uNkfenUkdJ8olCbrJVUeLUH6NVA3VRYTofe0rcYgQacp05pV8/?imgmax=800"></p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJcQyXIfKEm4B3A8CRiYXMqnlQqYZ5wY7obir5PHM1Y9Tb6n9Jfu2uXmlN8G-002d2bcU6Kvz4xC4FeReuJ-oJHksBOw3zn246-UBjKCFJJ94W9CsHyhmpNzUNwUAZ6IVEe-AzfB0tsPA/s1600-h/Yeasu%252520FTM-350AR%25255B3%25255D.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Yeasu FTM-350AR" border="0" alt="Yeasu FTM-350AR" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh89isXDZ5-OOdGJc2plLjzSM7trpXjqUOP_1kjo7LPzttyjomiHidIK9AuUYvV5zHzX11tY1D6rpOc2uyfpPJPZy9xX7ojh_tbATGGTrIwgl_30cn_aexInplFv19hd5noscy4g66TQB8/?imgmax=800" width="432" height="228"></a></p> Erik's RV Blog http://www.blogger.com/profile/17149039572885361450noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107540537728179147.post-44314613985031141192012-11-25T07:24:00.001-08:002012-11-25T07:24:33.092-08:00WANTED<p> </p> <p align="center">There is a special place for these two in hell.</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijL6TPQy_AZPO1LkkwKQImjtRSlIcfnrWnFnVr3NCUjmcXCRY3h1-jR7igofwuwq1c3p0mjo3lUcWxnmm-59mlegN1EtUGs94_bWDDBZEqyD45ZyfLdn_rD0UkoMEurnQEd5a6M0qQT08/s1600-h/Childabusers%25255B3%25255D.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Childabusers" border="0" alt="Childabusers" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-1cIcT1qYwBOjMddkCn7xh24DQZPqejF1MRxqi4A9gW-A9tnwicrYZEqI7ddAEuQA7BBSjeiRXOE7-4QvHLjvXtqlm0OFpiAvjxn9RQhe24Kw_58EurBP6LSM5ifYhkx_fgsIL0HL9n4/?imgmax=800" width="512" height="662"></a></p> Erik's RV Blog http://www.blogger.com/profile/17149039572885361450noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9107540537728179147.post-39520269733952186542012-11-21T22:01:00.000-08:002012-11-21T22:11:04.169-08:00Happy Thanksgiving!<p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb5rxm_0q_Yf98ctm0UBJeOYJ_4GDMyA054FT63lHLjWHTgEGAjB_S0tz99M2UMtFjz1D1wLW0RU8iH4qFov5DPQN78pBo5QHaldJy6FX9yJAvd0pYvYy5n1JjSrc2zWkEq-Xlg2BDNqA/s1600-h/HappyThanksgiving%25255B6%25255D.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="HappyThanksgiving" border="0" alt="HappyThanksgiving" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ_21-NPet9_Ph428mK_Ht1LEKUkWWWLZgK5ueZxlsBQEtDYO0yCmIbNJKBD6sf2OHZbhVD8vmXX17ybJMIjiYCFlWTM7r8DST9LHa1CPgPnR2pcxyuNAE7MwW4gE_kPlKWSTbqP-2KOI/?imgmax=800" width="635" height="477"></a></p> Erik's RV Blog http://www.blogger.com/profile/17149039572885361450noreply@blogger.com0
